There are many differences between a panic and anxiety attack. Anxiety attacks are normally triggered by a fearful or stressful situation. Tension from daily life is enough to trigger anxiety symptoms. Worrying and getting worked up about money and work are common causes for having an anxiety attack.

Most people think that an anxiety attack must be related to an anxiety disorder, but this is not the case. Everyone deals with stress differently especially when the fight or flight response is triggered. For one person, riding a rollercoaster may be a frightening experience, for another an exhilarating one. For one person they thrive on the feeling of apprehension, risk and excitement. For another, they fear the danger.

Feelings of fear, apprehension and jitteriness are typical during an anxiety attack. Symptoms usually pass once the sufferer has had time to relax and calm. On the other hand, a panic attack is unpredictable and unprovoked. They can begin without any warning.

Suffering from a panic disorder can be a living nightmare. Knowing that a panic attack could happen without prior warning, makes day to day life limiting. Anxiety disorders differ in symptoms and may not even create anxiety attacks.

Symptoms for anxiety disorders such as GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) include excessive tiredness and depression. GAD sufferers overly worry about everyday things that need not worrying about. Obsessing and worrying about the smallest situations and troubles can make a sufferer feel incapacitated.

Although panic and anxiety attacks can appear similar, they are very different in severity. Panic symptoms include fear of dying, palpitations, dreamlike sensations and stomach upset. What's worse is that these attacks can go on for hours and symptoms can go on for days and even weeks.

Certain places or situations related with a panic attack, are likely to be avoided by the sufferer in case of a reoccurring attack. It's difficult to not worry about having another attack, since a future one is certain.

Panic and anxiety disorders can develop from both childhood and adulthood. Changes in the brain and environmental stress are such factors that can cause these mental illnesses. In addition, these disorders may be hereditary and run in families.

Repeat panic attacks are exhausting and debilitating for sufferers. However, treatment is available for panic and anxiety disorders. Becoming popular are alternative therapies, such as hypnosis that don't require medication. Treatments such as these can cut down symptoms and make life easier.
